Jellyfish
Is anyone able to provide any information on the various types of jellyfish that wash up on the beach at BK-levels of toxicity, remedies for stings, etc.
Re: Jellyfish
It is very difficult to tell as many non-stinging jellies mimic the look of those that do. I picked up a large purple one the other day and didn't get stung, you can usually touch the top of them, the tentacles below contain the stinging nematocysts. General rule of thumb is if you see a large number of them washed up on the beach I would avoid swimming that day.
A good locally sourced remedy is "pak boong talay" - this is a green trailing type plant that lives on the beaches, crush the leaves up and rub vigorously over the affected area to remove the tiny barbs that cause the sting - vinegar also works.
