Wow!!! Is that just a publicity photo, or did you guys collect all that rubbish in a single session? If you did, that's huge, well done.

That was collected over a couple of sessions, all off the beach. Obviously the floods made things a lot worse with everyone's trash and plastic getting washed straight into the sea. In the high season we get good turnouts of 15-20 people per week, in the low season our work dries up completely as there are only a couple of us.

Still very commendable, even if it was over a couple of sessions. Floods or not, you guys were still there to make the difference.

Have been away for a few days, but it looks like the big wind and big tides are back at the moment which will wash our beaches naturally.

Just been on the beach taking Yon for a walk and saw about 40 young people / children with bags and baskets collecting rubbish, they started at Why not bar and worked South, this is great that someone organized so many to come out on a Sunday to clean the beach…… well done to whoever it was.

About two to three months ago saw a group of students doing the same going north accompanied by some teachers. Hope to see them more often!

Another 'garbage island' found off Bang Saphan coast
A floating garbage island has been found in the Gulf of Thailand off Bang Saphan district.

Snorkellers off Koh Talu in the district on Sunday reported the floating trash moving towards the island to Siam Marine Rehabilitation Foundation.

The garbage includes plastic bags, bottles and foam boxes, which is about one kilometre long.

Foundation secretary-general Paopipat Charoenpak said on Sunday that the garbage could damage shallow water reefs around the island and pollute the island if it washes up its beaches.

The latest floating garbage is the second trash slick found in the province after the previous one was detected in February. Authorities said the trash two months ago could be debris flowing into the sea from the heavy floods in southern provinces. It took about 10 days to move it from the sea.

The foundation has alerted the Marine and Coastal Resources Department, which sent speed boats to locate the trash and it is being collected.
