Can any give me directions to the closest place to get an international drivers license? (the helpful policemen are getting a bit expensive.)

Assuming that you are not Thai, my experience is that you need to get an International Driving Licence from your home country (or the country where your full driving licence was issued).

On my way home,2 weeks ago, to Chiang mai via Hua Hin by road I was stopped at a road block just south of HH and asked for my licence.I produced my Thai licence and my passport. After exchanging a few pleasantries I asked the officer "why had I been stopped" he said "too many falangs driving here long time without a Thai licence and that there was a "crackdown " all over Thailand.

I think its fair enough if we live here that we get a Thai licence, its easy to obtain.and far cheaper than an International licence .Big Boy's comment is true, I believe, and usable for a far shorter time period

You cant get an international license in Thailand.

You can get a Thai license on Petchkasem road, about 500 meters past the BS Yai turn off.

The police in BS do not hassle foreigners, I've never been asked for a license while driving/riding here.

I think I originally meant to ask regarding a Thai license as opposed to an international one. Cheers for your help.
