Looking at the Thailand Unlocked guide I see no mention of hotels or guesthouses. Have they always stayed open?

No, they're currently closed to new guests.

The problem is that nobody really knows when stuff will start to reopen, the govt is running around like a headless chicken and changes its mind every other day. This is because the decision-makers are military generals, their families, and construction billionaires that have no idea how to run a country.

It looks like alcohol will be banned again for another month.

We had an email from a friend in Chiang Mai who also said alcohol would be banned for another month - but with a 2 day grace period to replenish stocks. Beyond belief.

Presumably people find ways round the ban. There are hours when it is not permitted to buy a bottle of hooch. I have found it is easy to get round this by finding a shop run by Chinese. They recognise the stupidity of the prohibition and are very happy to make a few baht.

I am reminded of the days in England when the pubs had restricted hours. There were extensions, for instance market days. When Covent Garden in London was a wholesale fruit and veg market the pubs were open all through the night for the benefit of thirsty market workers. It was amazing how many of these porters wore evening dress.

Expect massive queues on Sunday in places like Makro - great for social distancing.

Additionally, provincial governors can overrule this and the one for Prachuap is a ****

Alcohol ban to be lifted Sunday -- with limits
Sales of alcoholic beverages will be allowed again from Sunday but people will only be able to drink at home and not in restaurants when they reopen, the government said on Friday.

The announcement was published in the Royal Gazette as part of the easing of some of the stringent measures imposed in the battle against the coronavirus.

The decision represents an about-face by the government, which said earlier this week that the alcohol ban would remain in effect until May 31 after it renewed the emergency decree for another month. Restaurants will not be allowed to serve alcohol as part of the condition for their reopening from tomorrow. Pubs and other entertainment venues where alcohol is served will stay closed.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said allowing the sale of alcohol reflected a "general relaxation" for the whole country.

"But Bangkok and some provinces can extend the ban if they think [lifting it] will do more harm than good," he said.

So what does that achieve? My was has been released from hospital 2 days ago after suffering 4 of those symptoms. She does not pose a medical threat to anybody. If she put a tick in the relevant boxes, who will assess her fitness to travel? An untrained ticket collector. BONKERS.

Don't be surprised if they ban alcohol again, any excuse to wield that power ...
