A partial update on public transport from Bang Saphan / Ban Krut to Bangkok, in case it’s useful for others.

Trains - there’s currently only one train operating each day - no.40 which leaves BS at app 13:00 and arrives in Bangkok at app 20:10 (times may vary from day to day). It’s not possible to book more than a few days in advance as timetables are changing often - next timetable update is on 30 Sept or 1 Oct. All online timetables are incorrect or out of date.
Flights from Chumphon airport. Nok Air has cancelled all flights except those on Friday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.
Buses & minivans - Will advise later. Finding it hard to get anything except anecdotal info (which varies according to the person claiming to know )

BS hospital was empty yesterday when I went to collect my physical certificate, no vaccines this week it seems.

They can't do the vaccine passport there I was told, so a trip to Prachuap hospital is required for that. Will find out the procedure when up there next.

So it’s now no longer so difficult to enter Britain - we just need to wait for Thailand to allow normal re-entry on return using a retirement extension…

Apparently from Nov 1. UK (and citizens from 9 other countries) can enter without quarantine. Still need the tests and insurance though. No mention of lifting the curfew/state of emergency or alcohol/bar ban though so not exactly happy holidays for tourists with pretty much everything still closed.

Applied for the covid passport in Prachuap hospital yesterday. You need to go to the 4th floor and turn left out of the lift, the office is hidden in the far left corner. Copy of passport and vaccine certificate required plus 50 baht, can collect the following week.

Thailand to cease Sinovac vaccine use when stocks end this month
Thailand will stop using the Covid-19 vaccine of China's Sinovac when its current stock finishes, a senior Public Health Ministry official said on Monday, having used the shot extensively in combination with Western-developed vaccines.

Thailand used over 31.5 million Sinovac doses since February, starting with two doses to frontline workers, high-risk groups and residents of Phuket, the holiday island that reopened to tourists in July in a pilot scheme.

In July, Thailand started inoculating people with Sinovac as a first dose followed by the Oxford University-developed AstraZeneca. Thailand was the first country to combine a Chinese and Western shots, a strategy its health officials said has proved effective.

"We expect to have distributed all Sinovac doses this week," said Dr Opas Karnkawinpong, the Department of Disease Control director-general, adding the programme will switch to combining the AstraZeneca vaccine with that made by Pfizer and BioNTech.

According to the BKK post article (and they’ve admittedly been very confusing on several issues), the government CCSA spokeswoman said that health insurance will not be required for people “who had earlier left Thailand ….and been <in a low risk country> less than 21 days”. It’ll be interesting to see how that’s phrased in the official written announcement. “Had earlier left” is a bit unclear as it could also just mean those already in a low risk country at the time of the policy change. Hopefully it covers us if we go from Thailand to Europe for, say, Christmas and return to Thailand within the 21 days

It is all very confusing. I know of people returning in November and all have to quarantine for a week so the junta is lying. The certificate of entry is not issued without proof that quarantine hotels are booked and paid for so the scam continues.

Besides, with everything still closed/banned, it won't be much fun for those that are thinking of a holiday here.

They’ve announced the intention but it won’t be effective until 1 November - at least that’s how I understand it. I’ve been telling friends overseas to wait until after the 1st to see if the requirements from the Embassy change to match all these announcements
