Major flooding in Bangsaphan
Re: Major flooding in Bangsaphan
to the best of my knowledge very few people in Suan Luang farang or Thai have insurance for floods

Theatre is fine. We are next door and had some bad problems, a little on the Theatre's side, but they are finebazfaz wrote:It is staggering to see the damage and all the heartbreak you folk must be suffering. I hope the skies are blue now.
We were in Bang Saphan for a few days at the beginning of February. I hope Theatre Villa is OK.

I don't think anybody has answered my question (apologies if somebody did). Did they give any warning before opening the dams? Anywhere else that would be corporate manslaughter if they did and people died if no warning was given.
An hour's warning would have at least given people time to move possessions higher within their dwellings.

Is yours the house right by the beach next to Theatre? When we were there at the beginning of February there was a storm and waves caused quite a few problems. But it must be worse this time.migrant wrote:Theatre is fine. You really think something as logical and sensible as this would happen in Thailand?Big Boy wrote:I don't think anybody has answered my question (apologies if somebody did). That'll be a no then. Incredible, considering the potential dire consequences. I wonder if the guy with his finger on the button can sleep at night.

Hello
Im supposed to come to Bang Saphan in a few days, I was going to stay at the Theater Villa and go volunteer at Headrock shelter but I've just seen your posts about the floods... Are things back to normal? Do you if more heavy rains are supposed to come?
Thank you for your updates,
Hélène

We are next to the theater on the south side. Last year we had high seas in Jan and Feb, but OK. The bungalow is temporary, will build back a ways in 2017bazfaz wrote:Is yours the house right by the beach next to Theatre? Took some shots today of some of the beach damage, this is all south of the Coral Hotel ...
Re: Major flooding in Bangsaphan
There are a few structures very close to the edge there. I have seen the effects of not dealing with such erosion on my beach walks from Hua Hin to Cha-Am. Those vertical walls of sand gradually crumble, and nature steals more and more land. There is a marked difference between properties that have kept on top of the erosion problem, and those who leave it to nature. Once nature takes a foothold, it moves fast.
