Just me being nosey.
It's been a long time since I was in BS, having spent 6-weeks there December to January 2009 /10.
But having since retired and having now lived in Thailand for just over two years, with most of that time spent in Korat, but now mainly in Bangkok and latterly with a house in Hua Hin, although not ready to move into yet, I'd like to get back down that way at some stage, sooner, rather than later, for no other reason than I loved it!
I think the permanent expat population back then was about 50, from memory. No doubt I'll be corrected if wrong. Has there been an explosion of expats since that time and what about Ban Krut? My main memory of Ban Krut was the beautiful beach, seriously empty resorts and the temple!
Thanks for any replies.
Expat population in Bangsaphan
Re: Expat population
IMHO there has been no explosion but, perhaps, a steady, slow increase. Buksida probably can answer best
Re: Expat population in Bangsaphan
Just from observation (and living here for ten years or so) I'd estimate it at around 50-60 off season (May to Oct) rising to over 200 in high season, most "expats" come here for the winter, there are not many full timers. Though the numbers are increasing, BS just seems to attract more "quiet types" that do not want to socialise, so estimating is not easy.
Re: Expat population in Bangsaphan
Thanks for those answers. I'd forgotten about the quieter farangs. I recall there was a chap lived behind the Sunrise resort, used to cycle into town much of the time. I stood beside him on a couple of occasions and whilst not seeking to intrude, thought I would imply 'hi', but never even an acknowledgement. He was obviously living his life as he chose to. That has to be respected.
So anyway, a slow, but steady increase in at least part-timers sounds like it will be one of those rare places that will be pretty unchanged since my last visit - that sounds great to me!

Re: Expat population in Bangsaphan
The only changes you'll notice from 2010 is the building, everyone and their dog has put up rental bungalows in Suan Luang, very few are occupied though.
Re: Expat population in Bangsaphan
I guess it would be rude to say Too many.
