Jelly Fish

Hi all,

As a relative newbie to BS I am still getting to know natures weather and other patterns for the area. I am curious as to the invasion of Jellyfish the last couple weeks. Is this a regular event? Annually? Off and on all the time? Or did they follow my house guest here from Fargo to make sure I had to drive her 20k each day to swim?

Its an annual thing though there are more of them this year, maybe something to do with El Niño.

Thanks - good to know! I have taken my house guest to Ban Krood, Bangbird, Ko Talu and the beach at they big sand dune and we had lovely swims at all w with no sign of them, so their is hope. Funny, we tried to stop at the beach in Hua Hin a couple days ago but changed our plans 100 feet from the beach when parking became too much. Guess we dodged a bullet there. I appreciate the info!

It would be nice if they served *some* function, and were at least edible. If not for humans, then at least an irrestible treat for beach dogs, especailly the red and brown ones.

Good question and I can see you're serious about this issue...

My answer is: I don't care whether the dogs eat the jellyfish or the jellyfish eat the dogs, or even if the dogs turn red after eating the jellyfish. As long as they've all floated out to sea on the evening tide I'll be happy.

It's a fun game for us kids to see if we can walk to the end of the beach by only stepping on jellyfish.

if the dogs turn red after eating a jellyfish,would it be because they were brown before they ate it or they turned red after eating a brown jellyfish?

September is jellyfish season so be careful out there - the tiny translucent ones sting like hell!

I have been surprised by how few there were this year. Except for a different type one day out at Koh Talu 6 weeks ago, I'm still going in daily. It would be great if it were not likely some sign of impending global apocalypse. Either that or they are just waiting until my family arrives in December.
