That sums it up well, at least from my times on the island - the whole place is mafia run.

I think the guy that wrote that article has an excellent understanding of what goes on and I just signed up for his future blogs.

We know Samui for example is a cesspool of mafia and scam merchants and our own experiences on Kho Chang was similar. On a positive note I hope increased exposure of this tragic affair helps future, somewhat naive, tourists to be more on guard.

All Thailand Tourism figures seem concerned with is the image of the country as a safe holiday destination well it aint if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. The number of unsolved murders over the years is horrific and no guarantee that to clear the decks they won't fit up some poor individual on this one and case closed.
