Re: Coral Hotel -- rumors of ownership change?
Based on the total downturn of tourism you would almost have to give it away or as some are doing in Chiang Mai utilising them as a care facility for people with Dementia,Parkinsons etc or those no longer able to care for themselves. They have resident nursing staff and provide meals, far from cheap ...

Re: The end of tourism for Bangsaphan?
Sadly the Thai Gov is stumbling around with no idea what direction they should take for the benefit of the whole country.I take anything they say with a pinch of salt but it is sending a clear message to the former backbone of tourism that you are not really welcome here. We got out of lock down her...

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates
The Thai government are way behind in schemes to gouge more money out of tourists. Some years ago when I got visas for our trip to India I found I had to pay a levy to support indigent Indian workers abroad. Australian Government are pretty good at gouging tourists as well.I forget how much it cost...

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates
We had an email from a friend in Chiang Mai who also said alcohol would be banned for another month - but with a 2 day grace period to replenish stocks. Beyond belief. The 2 day window has been closed. We have flights (Air Asia,Nok ,Vietjet & Lion) leaving Chiang Mai now to Bangkok, both airports and...

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates
Just read inbound International flights not on for at least another 15 days. In Chiang Mai we have a population, with Burmese .Laos and Cambodian workers, of over 1 m. I've been impressed with how disciplined people have been.Everyone one wearing masks ,temps taken when going into stores High temp a...

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates
Bangkok media reporting Swampy will open May 1 but not any indication of what flights coming and going.Apparently they have taken the opportunity to add more escalators and give the whole place a bit of face lift.I guess matter of waiting to see what unfolds

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates
There's a lot of talk about there being a second wave of Covida virus but that is sheer speculation. Free food queues here all over Chiang Mai are growing daily.CM economy is totally dependent on tourism.Businesses closing for good. They have to open up again soon with sensible screening unlike the ...

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates
Appears to be a lot of confusion regarding when incoming and outgoing International flights will be allowed.Seems Domestic flights are almost ready to roll but leaves the tourism industry in limbo. If anybody gets credible information they might provide a link .I can't find one and was so hoping for ...

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates
Same apparently for Phuket and Korat, domino effect ?As you say where are guests supposed to go or is it mis information meaning no new guests allowed ? Also rumours circulating about bringing in a 24 hour curfew. Even in Thai times that seems unlikely

Re: Status of various things in Bangsaphan
The crunch time is now with 1,000's of Bangkok workers returning to their Provinces, most to the NE so won't effect you down south but there obviously will be some. Self isolation for 2 weeks is maybe a concept Thais wont understand or be able to do as the family home is all they have to go to. Chian...

Re: Deadsville, Bangsaphan
The annual pollution especially in Bangkok and the north of Thailand combined with the now renamed Covid-19 virus has been the perfect storm for Thai tourism both domestic and international. In the city of Chiang Mai this morning it was as quiet as I've ever seen it even in the depths of a low season...
