Re: Deadsville, Bangsaphan

Re: Deadsville, Bangsaphan

The annual pollution especially in Bangkok and the north of Thailand combined with the now renamed Covid-19 virus has been the perfect storm for Thai tourism both domestic and international. In the city of Chiang Mai this morning it was as quiet as I've ever seen it even in the depths of a low season...

Re: Deadsville, Bangsaphan

The younger Chinese tourists tend to just wander around the old city, take a zillion photos ,feed the pigeons at Thepae Gate which is now illegal.High percenatge are well dressed intelligent young ladies. The older ones tend to come in groups, ferried around in buses and vans, and their itinerary is we...

Re: Deadsville, Bangsaphan

Lots of issues to consider retiring in Bangsaphan or any other part of Thailand now another one is health insurance.Over 70 its virtually impossible to get insurance ( I'm closing in on 77).Going back to my home country,Australia, for a health issue disappeared a long time ago ,you have to become a ...

Re: Deadsville, Bangsaphan

That's a pretty depressing picture for local businesses on the beach. Not sure if anyone has identified exactly why some locals have decided to leave. In Chiang Mai this year we had the worst pollution ever recorded. Toxic air due to burning forests to promote mushroom growth and Rice and Corn stubble...

Re: Scooter Lessons

Very sound advice Buksida.Last January over 2,000 people died on Thai roads ,many were motor bike riders. That is only those who died at the scene of the "accident". Hospitals claim that between 50-70% more people die from injuries after being admitted to hospital.Countless others spend the rest of t...

Re: Pharmacy in Bangsaphan

We live in Chiang Mai and I need 7 different medications per month. It took me a while to find where to buy the lowest priced medications and apart from one that requires going to our Dr or a Hospital, as it is on the restricted list. We finished up with the bulk being from a small one man Pharmacy c...

Re: Low season coming to an end, how was it?

Pretty depressing news then for those relying on local and international tourism.Confirms my belief that TAT talking up the numbers fools some but not those that have been here for a while. Nightlife in CM has been so depressed by rigid enforcements of closing times etc and that if you speak to youn...

Here in Chiang Mai people most people in business, the realistic, honest ones are saying the its been the worst low season for turnover they can remember. Is this reflected in Bangsphan ? TAT figures are never to be believed and while we are moderately inundated here with ChineseJapanese amd Koreans th...

Re: Major flooding in Bangsaphan

You mess with the natural environment at your own peril be it land fill, re routing water natural courses, clear felling etc. This is not any new age philosophy, been proven through history I believe Kho Samui .Kho Chang etc are classic example of that.Paradises trashed. Thailand is still basically a ...

Re: Major flooding in Bangsaphan

Truly devestating over such a large area. For people who didnt have insurance going to be long, hard haul to get back to anything approaching normal. Very little info in mainstream media ,thanks for keeping us posted.
