Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

Moo 9 residents have been getting calls for registration for vaccination appointments. Confirmed they will be getting the AZ shot. Ages irrelevant but over 60s will be prioritized, appointments beginning on June 7 at BS Yai hospital. Farangs can get on this list regardless of age, but they did ask f...

Re: Power/electric supply problems in Suan Luang

photo_2021-05-09_12-59-29.jpg Latest casualty from yesterday's transformer explosion (yes, breakers tripped and the UPS kept the machine on but it wasn't enough to save the mobo which wouldn't start up again after). It pays to have a lot of spares lying around living here, and keep computers unplug...

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

Don't hold your breath - the junta changes its mind on a daily basis!

Cases in Hua Hin are escalating again, linked to a pineapple factory and Burmese workers. Bangsaphan has very little thankfully - nobody comes here!

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

No vaccines for the white devils anytime soon: Thai people will always be given priority for Covid-19 vaccines, the Ministry of Public Health said yesterday, denying reports that some expats living in the kingdom would also be allowed to register for free jabs. The ministry said while the government...

Re: Power/electric supply problems in Suan Luang

The system worked well during yesterday's late afternoon blackout. It won't power high wattage appliances such as kettles, toasters, microwaves, or rice cookers, but works as intended in keeping computers, internet, lights, and fans on until they fix it. The recharge time is fast when there is full ...

Re: Power/electric supply problems in Suan Luang

Not sure what you're getting at here but it does trip the breakers - every time. However, some of these spikes are so powerful that it is often not enough, you're getting three phases into one and not all of it goes to ground (my neighbour has had light bulbs exploding). Highly sensitive electronic ...

Re: Power/electric supply problems in Suan Luang

Yes, its been a successful experiment so far - even on a dull day, you can get a bit of a charge into the battery. The UPS I have is a basic APC 500VA/300W unit available online here (naturally, they're more expensive in Thailand): https://www.lazada.co.th/products/ups-apc-br500ci-as-500-va300-watt-...

Re: Power/electric supply problems in Suan Luang

The battery is on a table inside and it is charging just fine at the moment - the solid plastic container should prevent any unwanted discharge. The biggest factor is the amount of light hitting the panel (which today has been good) and the angle of tilt. The rainy season may be a different story th...

Re: Power/electric supply problems in Suan Luang

The first stage of the experiment is complete. My kit has arrived so wired it all up, charged the battery off the panel, and connected it to the office via the existing UPS. It ran the PC, a 23" screen, internet router, and fan for an hour and a half (about the time it takes them to fix the transfor...

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

Major lockdown looming for Prachuap province. Dr. Opart also said today (Monday) that the more than 2,000 infections per day for the past several days is a matter of serious concern and the Ministry of Public Health finds it necessary to tighten preventive measures in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chon Buri,...

Re: Power/electric supply problems in Suan Luang

Great info, thanks. Our home setup sounds similar but doesn't have a water pump running as it is gravity fed, and it only uses the a/c in the bedroom at night during the hot season. Bills fluctuate wildly from about 1,800 up to 3,000. I don't think the PEA wants people generating their own or feedin...

Re: Power/electric supply problems in Suan Luang

Thanks, we also had a quote from them but it was considerably higher than that and beyond our budget at the time (which is closer to your figure). Can you let us know some specs such as what your average bill (usage) was before, what size inverter, size and number of panels, and batteries. Do you ru...

Re: Power/electric supply problems in Suan Luang

Yes, please can you share some more details, company that installed it, costs, etc?

Our bill this month was 50% higher than last month - they seem to just pull the numbers out of a hat.

Re: Power/electric supply problems in Suan Luang

Two more outages this week - coinciding with the rain. Seems like we are going to get an early and prolonged wet season this year so those blackouts will increase in frequency. Solar kit ordered yesterday - will be experimenting with the DIY option first since quotes for the whole house are off the ...

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

It seems like inter-provincial travel is unofficially prohibited as some Chumphon hotels will not allow you to leave the room if coming from Prachuap province.
