Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

Pardon my intruding from far away Blighty but this morning I had my Covid booster jab. It all went smoothly provided you overlook the nurse armed with a clipboard who asked if I was pregnant.

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

Caller, that is rather what I meant. He appointed someone to deal with the vaccine and then had nothing more to do with it. This is just as well as he wants to please everyone and delays making decicions (about lockdowns, for instance) for weeks after his scientists say it is necessary.

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

One of the joys (limited in number) of living in the UK is the vaccination programme. This is undoubtedly because Boris has nothing to do with it. I had my first jab on 16 Jan, my second on 1 April. Both were Pfizer - or as a friend calls it Bee Fizzer. The only reaction was a slightly sore arm for ...

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

So Big Boy, can I fly to Bangkok and stay in the guesthouse we always stay in? Can we go out to restaurants and have a drink with our meal? Can we travel freely in the country? When we return to the UK can we avoid expensive tests and self isolation?

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

I am one of the fortunate ones in UK. I had my first Pfizer jab on 16th Jan and my second one on 1st April. I'll probably be eligible for a thid jab in late September. But I can't go to Thailand.

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

Thanks, Osandpo.

I have visited Thailand many times but the language defeats me. I tried asking for cold water once and the waitress dissolved into giggles. Apparently I had asked for elephant water.

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

I wonder what my name David Brierley looks like transliterated into Thai.

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

Vaccinating is one of the few things done efficiently in England. I had my first pFizer jab on 16 January and my second on 1 April. However this is not helping with international travel. The UK government has posted a list of 12 countries we can travel to. The list contains useless places like South...

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

Here in England (Scotland and Wales are different) you'll be able to have friends for a meal - but it is recommended they bring not only their own food but the chairs to sit on.

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

The Thai government are way behind in schemes to gouge more money out of tourists. Some years ago when I got visas for our trip to India I found I had to pay a levy to support indigent Indian workers abroad.

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

I remember a year or so back they were going to ban the sale of alcohol within 500 metres of an educational establishment. This of course would have closed down large parts of Bangkok, Chiang Mai and every other town in the country. What happened to that? It is not only Thailand that comes up with s...

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

I am reminded of the days in England when the pubs had restricted hours. There were extensions, for instance market days. When Covent Garden in London was a wholesale fruit and veg market the pubs were open all through the night for the benefit of thirsty market workers. It was amazing how many of t...

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

Presumably people find ways round the ban. There are hours when it is not permitted to buy a bottle of hooch. I have found it is easy to get round this by finding a shop run by Chinese. They recognise the stupidity of the prohibition and are very happy to make a few baht.

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

We had an email from a friend in Chiang Mai who also said alcohol would be banned for another month - but with a 2 day grace period to replenish stocks. Beyond belief.

Re: Bangsaphan Coronavirus/Covid-19 updates

Looking at the Thailand Unlocked guide I see no mention of hotels or guesthouses. Have they always stayed open?
