Pharmacy in Bangsaphan

Post by 12lem1 » 26 Feb 2018 13:21

Hi, This is my first post. We are retired, currently living in Chiang Mai and are making some plans to come down next month with a view to having a look around then to decide if it's us. I have checked out the downloadable map and notice the Pharmacy. I would like to know are most meds e.g. blood pressure, alzehmeirs readily available. Thank you

Welcome to the forum, you can get regular meds here, there is a nice fellow the runs the pharmacy in town who speaks very good English.

However Bangsaphan is a village compared to Chiang Mai so it would be best to stock up on your important stuff before you come.

My Mother in law has around 10 different meds and she has been able to find them, or their equivalent in the local pharmacies.

We go to the one in town that Buksida mentioned, ask him about his home brew, you may get a sample!, he has been able to get everything.

You may want to check with him well before you need to reorder, if he has to order it can take some time.

I have my regular pharmacist in CM and she will order in for me if its not in stock. I always have 1 or 2 months spare meds on hand. Big price difference here, we now pay 4700THB for 1 month supply whereas NZD20.00 would provide Bill with a 3 month supply.

Love the home brew us being Kiwi and Aussie so will have to check that out.

Thanks for the help.

If you can find a knock on the web and show the pharmacist here it will save you a bunch of money, The Thai's knock off most of the majors. I did that with some antibiotics and saved a fortune

We live in Chiang Mai and I need 7 different medications per month. It took me a while to find where to buy the lowest priced medications and apart from one that requires going to our Dr or a Hospital, as it is on the restricted list. We finished up with the bulk being from a small one man Pharmacy close to our home .Low overheads normally means a lower price and the BS Pharmacy may well be the same. As a back why not talk to your Pharamacy in CM and ask if they can still supply you by EMS or registered post if all else fails. The price fluctation of medications and I dont mean knock offs is staggering.Hypertension tabs that were costing me 550b a mth I now get a Thai version,on the recommendation of my Dr ,exactly the same composition, for 80 baht a mth.Hope it works out for you ,BS is one of the few remaining coastal areas that retains it natural ambience

Mike, my suggestion of a knock off and yours as a Thai version are the same thing, no matter what you call them they save us all money!
